Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry, College of Natural Sciences. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.  Biochemistry is at the heart of the life sciences.  Here we study the small molecules that make or mar life! Our team of world-class academics and technical staff ensure through their research and teaching that our students are appropriately equipped to become internationally competitive graduates.  Since home is where the heart is, and we are the heart of the life sciences, you are welcome home.

Objectives of the Department

From the start, the objectives of the Department were clearly outlined as part of the general philosophy of the University. The Department has thus offered courses of instruction to students of Agriculture/Chemistry, Biological Sciences and basic Veterinary Medicine at the undergraduate levels.

The Department aims at producing graduate Biochemists that are equipped in modern aspects of the discipline and aware of the needs of Nigeria and Africa in general in their area of specialty.
